Day 5

I review books for freshfiction.com (link is to my reviews). This is a crappy yet heartfelt shot of the books remaining on my to-do list. (and some knitting set aside to go to its new owners tomorrow) More brand spanking new books will be on their way to me sometime this month. Unread books make for a happy otter with lots of joy in store.

Day 4

Mitts
I created these mitts for the mother of a neighbor. The neighbor gave me one of the greatest gifts I ever received, our dog Kitsune. Kit has been gone many years, but I still miss her, the more because I cannot have a dog until I am in a more universally designed home and can care for a dog on my own without adding to Oscar's (dh) burden. I am glad to be able to help warm her mom.
The mitts sparked an idea for a pattern which I hope to have ready for testing at the end of the week. It will be a set of related patterns using the same stitch with the choice of using one color of yarn, or more than one (it dramatically changes the appearance of the fabric in ways difficult to anticipate, which I find fascinating)
The set will include fingerless mitts, like these but in a finer gauge of yarn, a slouchy hat between a toque and a beret, full mittens, and a cowl, all in 4 sizes. I have one mitten (solid) finished and one mitt (2-colors) almost done. Next up is a hat (solid), then the cowl (3 colors). I am using a luscious yarn called Andean silk; a blend of silk, alpaca and merino wool. The mitts in the photo are made from a wool processed to be machine washable and dryable.

Bad Day 2

I hope there won't be too many days like this, where the best I could do is take a photo of what's in front of me. Still, it is early enough in the year that this is a good addition.
It shows the website where I spend most of my time. The source of my income, and bolsterer of my self-confidence as a designer.

Beginnings

I had today's photo all planned out.
I would use an egg to symbolize beginning.
The reflections of the colored ball we have would be beautiful reflected from the silken matte shell.
Then I checked the fridge and realized we only have brown eggs.
Never mind, I have a crystal ball that will look pretty, and will symbolize the uncertainty of the future, which is likely pretty accurate for the day, too.
I also like the resemblance to moon phases.
